About Midnight Mirror:
Midnight Mirror was commissioned as a companion piece to Beethoven’s Grosse Fugue. The music of Midnight Mirror depicts midnight as a fleeting moment, intensely frenetic, a simultaneity that starkly conflates one day as it has passed and one day as it is yet to be. In this music, I freeze the instant of midnight; yet I linger there to capture a mood, much like I feel Beethoven did in his Grosse Fugue, which celebrates the relentless intensity of time, our enraptured emotionality that is over in the blink of an eye, our strained longing to grip time and hold.
